Chestnut Mountain Resort – A Favorite for Families in Galena

Chestnut Mountain Resort has 19 ski trails across 3,500 feet of runs and a 475-foot vertical drop. The resort's terrain park is the largest in the Midwest, with over 25 features for snowboarders and freestyle skiers. On-site ski equipment hire, a ski pass vendor, and a ski school staffed by professional instructors allow guests to hit the slopes without extra trips.

Year-round activities include a mini-golf course, a children's playground, and Segway tours across scenic trails. Guests can ride the alpine slide down to the Mississippi River and take the chairlift back up, or try the Soaring Eagle zipline for river views. Indoor swimming pool, sauna, hot tub, and a games room with board games and puzzles provide recreation regardless of weather.

The on-site Summit Food & Spirits restaurant offers a menu that includes broiled shrimp, walleye strips, and Reuben sandwiches, served with views of the Mississippi River. A full bar and an outdoor patio provide sunset seating on the terrace. The indoor pool, sauna, and spa facilities are open year-round, and guests have access to sun loungers and pool towels.

Rooms include cable TV with satellite channels, private bathrooms with hairdryer and free toiletries, and some offer a seating area and river view. Family rooms are available, and the resort has a 24-hour front desk and ATM on site. Note that the property has no elevator - guests should request a ground-floor room if needed.

Chestnut Mountain Resort is 8 miles from downtown Galena and less than 7 miles from Belvedere Mansion and the Galena Historic District. The J Dubuque Monument is 16 km away, and the Galena-Jo Daviess County History Museum is 11 km from the resort. Free parking and an electric vehicle charging station are available on site.
